In this heartwarming and funny novel by the beloved author of "Counting by 7s, " Julia grows into her sense of self while playing a Munchkin in a summer stock theater production of "The Wizard of Oz."
Kathleen's review - Julia spends a lot of time thinking about things - she reasons out idioms, she tries to figure out what people really mean, she thinks about things instead of paying attention to teachers (well, we all did that!). And right now it's school break and her mother decides that Julia needs to audition for the production of The Wizard of Oz. Julia isn't the least bit interested.
Isn't it lovely how things change?! We do something we don't really want to, and discover that there are all sorts of interesting things and people connected. Julia, who has inherited her short stature from her grandmother, finds a role model in Olive who is a fellow Munchkin and has dwarfism. She also gets to know the director, and the old lady who lives just down the road.
I loved this book - great setting, great learnings for Julia.
