Song of the River
Author(s): Joy Cowley
In this resonant story, Cam the mountain boy follows the river from its trickling source in the mountain snow all the way to the coast. The river leads him through forest, farms, and towns to the salty wind of the sea. Dramatic landscape illustrations evoke a North American landscape and are packed with detail to explore the world of the river.
Review by Helen
First published 25 years ago, Joy Cowley’s enduring story, Song of the River, has been brought back to life by the addition of absolutely gorgeous illustrations by Kimberly Andrews. Cam’s journey with the river starts high in the mountains and continues through shadowed forest and busy towns until he reaches the sea. We see the river from up high and from down under the water with the fish and we see it close up and far away. The light on the water is breathtaking in every illustration. A poetic and stunning book.
